The true story of John Wesley, founder of the Methodist movement, is one of adventure and drama beyond the imagination of Hollywood scriptwriters. This feature film has the adventure of Master and Commander and the bittersweet romance of a Sense and Sensibility.
Set in the early eighteenth century, the film follows the young Wesley, an earnest but somewhat misguided young Anglican priest as he seeks to earn his own salvation through good works. His experiences -- an encounter with a terrible storm at sea, a star-crossed romance in Georgia, an encounter with Moravian missionaries -- lead him to finally abandon his self-sufficiency and experience the free grace of God. His subsequent ministry to the poor and downtrodden of England was controversial and changed the face of the nation -- and the United States in its early days.
